Seven Resourcing are currently recruiting for an experienced Substance Misuse Nurse to join a specialist Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service in Blackpool on a temporary contract.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Registered Nurse with experience in substance misuse, addiction services, drug and alcohol recovery, community nursing, or mental health services. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality clinical interventions, harm reduction services, health promotion, and recovery-focused care to individuals affected by drug and alcohol dependency.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will support service users throughout their recovery journey by providing assessments, detoxification support, health screening, clinical interventions, and ongoing nursing care.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake comprehensive physical and mental health assessments for service users accessing substance misuse treatment services.
- Carry out alcohol assessments and support safe community alcohol detoxification programmes.
- Support opiate substitution treatment (OST) programmes and medication titration where required.
- Deliver health promotion, harm reduction advice, and recovery-focused interventions.
- Provide blood borne virus (BBV) screening, education, and support, including Hepatitis B vaccination programmes.
- Support individuals affected by Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and HIV through integrated care pathways.
- Undertake community-based alcohol and drug detoxification programmes.
- Carry out phlebotomy procedures and interpret blood results to support clinical decision-making.
- Refer service users to specialist healthcare services, inpatient detoxification services, and community support programmes where appropriate.
- Deliver Naloxone training and ensure widespread access to overdose prevention interventions.
- Provide wound care assessments and basic wound management where required.
- Complete risk assessments and contribute to risk management plans for vulnerable service users.
- Deliver psychosocial interventions in both one-to-one and group settings.
- Develop therapeutic relationships that support engagement, recovery, and positive health outcomes.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure compliance with service requirements and professional standards.
- Work collaboratively with GPs, pharmacists, hospitals, social care professionals, and partner agencies.
Applicant Requirements
- Current NMC registration with a valid PIN.
- First-level Registered Nurse qualification.
- Recent post-registration nursing experience.
- Experience working within substance misuse services, drug and alcohol services, addiction recovery, community nursing, mental health nursing, or public health services is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of harm reduction principles and health promotion interventions.
- Knowledge of alcohol detoxification, opiate substitution treatment, and recovery-focused practice.
- Excellent clinical assessment and risk management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong communication, documentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Experience in phlebotomy, BBV management, motivational interviewing, or substance misuse qualifications would be advantageous.
