AI and Automation Practitioner Level 4 Apprenticeship
Overview
We are looking for a tech-savvy, enthusiastic and highly organised Digital Support Officer to join our small, passionate team. You will play a central role in the delivery of our digital training sessions, working across multiple venues in Birmingham to support tutors and learners.
This is a varied, hands-on role that combines technical support, stakeholder engagement and creative tasks. You will be someone who is quick to learn, enjoys problem-solving, and is eager to grow with the organisation
As a Digital Support Officer Apprentice your duties will include but are not limited to:
Session Delivery Support
- Work alongside tutors to facilitate digital training sessions across multiple community venues.
- Set up and manage IT equipment before and during sessions, ensuring everything is ready and working.
- Provide on-the-day technical troubleshooting to resolve issues promptly and minimise disruption to learning.
- Support learners with varying levels of digital confidence, adapting your approach to individual needs.
Stakeholder & Partnership Coordination
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with tutors, venue contacts, volunteers and community partners.
- Act as a reliable point of contact for operational queries at your assigned venues.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with a diverse range of stakeholders.
Planning & Organisation
- Manage your own schedule across multiple venues, ensuring all sessions are properly resourced and supported.
- Coordinate the logistics of equipment, materials and room set-up in advance of sessions.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, equipment and any issues for reporting purposes.
Learner Support & Compliance
- Support learners throughout their digital journey, encouraging progression, building confidence and celebrating achievements.
- Identify learners who may need additional support during sessions and liaise with the tutor to ensure their needs are met.
- Ensure tutors collate accurate attendance registers at every session, in line with funding regulations and organisational requirements.
- Support staff with completion of all required learner paperwork, including enrolment forms, initial assessments, individual learning plans (ILPs) and progress reviews, ensuring these are completed correctly and on time.
- Support staff with compliance checks on learner files and session documentation, flagging any gaps or errors promptly.
- Support to maintain well-organised and up-to-date learner records that are audit-ready and meet funder requirements at all times.
- Work closely with Digital to ensure all delivery is evidenced and reported accurately.
- Collate and organise programme data including learner outcomes, progression milestones and session statistics to support monitoring and funder reporting.
- Gather and write up learner case studies, capturing the impact of the programme through real stories and testimonials for use in reports, funding applications and communications.
Digital Content & Social Media
- Design eye-catching social media graphics, posters and promotional materials using tools such as Canva or Adobe Express.
- Support the team with digital communications, including creating content for social media channels as required.
- Keep up with digital trends relevant to our programmes and learner audience.
Digital First Approach
- Bring a digital first mindset to all aspects of your work, actively seeking out technology and tools that improve efficiency and programme delivery.
- Confidently use AI tools to support tasks such as content creation, data analysis and communications, while applying critical thinking and appropriate checks to ensure outputs are accurate, appropriate and trustworthy.
- Stay up to date with emerging digital tools and AI developments relevant to the organisation's work.
- Share digital skills and AI tools with learners in an accessible and empowering way, helping to build their confidence and capability for work and everyday life.
Organisational Development
- Contribute actively to team meetings and organisational learning.
- Identify opportunities to improve how we use technology across our programmes.
- Support with any reasonable additional tasks to help the wider team deliver effectively
Skills Required
- Strong IT & Technical Skills - Confident troubleshooting hardware and software issues; solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Windows, and common digital tools.
- Quick Learner - Able to pick up new systems and platforms rapidly; proactive in developing your own digital knowledge.
- Highly Organised - Excellent planning skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and venues simultaneously.
- Communication Skills - Clear and confident communicator, able to work with diverse stakeholders including learners, tutors and partners.
- Stakeholder Engagement - Proven ability to build positive working relationships and represent the organisation professionally. Keen to learn and have a creative drive for Digital Content for social media graphics or promotional materials (e.g. using Canva, Adobe Express or similar).
- Adaptability - Flexible and solutions-focused; comfortable working in different environments and adapting to changing needs.

Programme: Digital Support Technician
Programme Length: 15 Months Practical period + 3 Months Apprenticeship Assessment
Digital Support Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard:
The successful candidate will undertake an 18 month, nationally recognised qualification through TDM. This is a work-based learning programme which will require commitment to block weeks in an online training room once every quarter working towards the qualification along with weekly off the job training and monthly coaching sessions.
You will have a designated mentor in the workplace to support your learning and at the end of programme will be assessed via an external assessment body.
This is a Level 3 qualification.

- Data Management and Information Systems
- Security
- Applications Technicians (or) Service Technicians
Please note that candidates will be required to undertake an 8-week pre-employment Skills Bootcamp prior to being considered for interview for this role. Those selected for the bootcamp will be guaranteed an interview with an employer upon successful completion. To be eligible, individuals must be aged 19 or over, reside within the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) area, and be able to commit to one day of study per week. The bootcamp will cover cyber basics, technology fundamentals, and core cyber security principles to prepare you for the role.
