Join Our Growing Operations Team
Submatter is looking for an experienced and professional HGV Instructor to join our Operations Team and help deliver high-quality driver and shunter training across our nationwide network.
This is an excellent opportunity for somebody passionate about driver development, safety standards and operational excellence. The role involves nationwide travel, working closely with drivers, managers and operational teams to ensure training is delivered safely, consistently and professionally.

The Role
As a Submatter Instructor, you will be responsible for delivering both theoretical and practical training to new and existing drivers and managers, primarily across our nationwide shunting operations.
You will play a key role in ensuring all training activities are delivered safely, compliantly and to the highest operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Delivering practical and classroom-based training sessions
- Training drivers in all aspects of shunting operations, including:
- Coupling and uncoupling procedures
- Basic and advanced reversing manoeuvres
- Safe operational practices and site procedures
- Conducting practical assessments and competency evaluations
- Providing coaching, mentoring and constructive feedback in live operational environments
- Ensuring compliance with company procedures and industry regulations
- Maintaining accurate electronic training records and competency documentation
- Delivering refresher and recurrent training to existing drivers and shunting personnel
- Supporting continuous improvement across training and operational standards
About You
Essential Requirements
- Proven operational experience as an HGV Instructor or Assessor
- Recognised Instructor and/or Assessor qualification
- Strong knowledge of shunting operations and safety-critical procedures
- Excellent communication and coaching skills
- Willingness to travel extensively nationwide and stay away from home when required
- Professional, organised and safety-focused approach
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Driver CPC Instructor qualification and delivery experience
- ADR training qualification and delivery experience
- Transport Manager CPC qualification/training experience
- Experience delivering training within transport, logistics or operational environments
