Shift Pattern: 4 days per week | 08:30am until 17:30pm | Alternative Weekends
Job Purpose
To support the delivery of nutritious, high-quality meals for residents, ensuring all food is prepared, cooked, and served in line with dietary requirements, hygiene regulations, and the care home’s standards. The role involves both cooking and general kitchen duties to maintain a safe, clean, and efficient environment.
Key Responsibilities Food Preparation & Cooking
- Prepare and cook meals in accordance with planned menus and individual dietary requirements (e.g., allergies, cultural needs, textures).
- Assist with menu planning where required.
- Ensure meals are served on time and presented to a high standard.
- Prepare special diets including soft, pureed, or fortified meals where necessary.
Kitchen Support
- Assist with general kitchen duties such as washing up, cleaning surfaces, and maintaining equipment.
- Ensure all kitchen areas are kept clean and tidy at all times.
- Support stock rotation and storage, ensuring all food is correctly labelled and dated.
- Receive and check food deliveries.
Health & Safety
- Follow all food hygiene regulations and care home policies (e.g., HACCP).
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and personal hygiene.
- Ensure safe use of kitchen equipment and report any faults or hazards.
- Comply with health and safety regulations to ensure a safe environment for residents and staff.
Resident Focus
- Be aware of residents’ preferences, nutritional needs, and special diets.
- Provide a friendly and respectful service when interacting with residents.
- Support a positive dining experience for residents.
Key Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in a kitchen or catering environment (care setting desirable but not essential).
- Basic food hygiene knowledge (Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate preferred).
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Understanding of special dietary requirements (desirable).
- Reliable, punctual, and flexible.
Personal Qualities
- Caring and considerate approach when working around vulnerable individuals.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure in a busy kitchen.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
Working Conditions
- May include shifts, weekends, and bank holidays.
- Role involves standing for long periods and manual handling (e.g., lifting supplies).
Additional Requirements
- Enhanced DBS check required.
- Training will be provided as necessary (e.g., food safety, health & safety).
Pay: £12.82 per hour
