Lead Nurse – Substance Misuse Services

Seven Resourcing are currently recruiting for an experienced Lead Nurse to join a specialist substance misuse service in London on a temporary basis.
This is an exciting opportunity for a senior nurse with experience in addiction services, drug and alcohol treatment, or community healthcare to take a leadership role within a multidisciplinary team.
As Lead Nurse, you will work closely with the Service Manager and Lead Doctor to deliver high-quality, evidence-based clinical services, ensuring safe and effective care for individuals affected by substance misuse.
The Role
The Lead Nurse will be a key member of the senior management team, providing clinical leadership and operational oversight for nursing services across the organisation.
You will be responsible for leading nursing teams, maintaining high clinical standards, supporting service development, and ensuring compliance with national guidance, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.
The role may require flexible working across multiple operational sites, including occasional evening, weekend, and bank holiday working.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership
- Lead and develop nursing services within the substance misuse team
- Ensure integrated care pathways are in place for service users with addiction-related health needs
- Work closely with the Lead Doctor and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement treatment plans
- Support nurses delivering detoxification programmes and harm reduction interventions
- Ensure clinical services are delivered in line with evidence-based practice, national guidance, and organisational policies
- Oversee immunisation and vaccination programmes, including blood-borne virus (BBV) prevention initiatives
- Promote health improvement and infection prevention strategies
Team Management
- Provide clinical supervision and operational line management to Nurses and Healthcare Assistants
- Conduct performance reviews and identify development opportunities
- Support workforce planning, recruitment, and staff development initiatives
- Foster a positive learning culture and encourage continuous professional development
- Ensure staff maintain professional standards and meet revalidation requirements
Quality and Governance
- Lead clinical audits and support continuous quality improvement initiatives
- Ensure compliance with CQC standards, safeguarding requirements, and clinical governance frameworks
- Monitor service performance and contribute to achieving contractual targets
- Identify and manage clinical risks effectively
- Support the implementation of new clinical developments and service improvements
Partnership Working
- Develop strong relationships with commissioners, healthcare providers, and external stakeholders
- Represent the service at partnership meetings, committees, and clinical forums
- Share specialist knowledge and support colleagues across operational sites
- Promote collaborative working across health and social care services
About You
To be considered for this Lead Nurse role, you must have:
- Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and a valid PIN
- Significant experience working within substance misuse, addiction services, community nursing, mental health, or social care settings
- Previous experience managing and developing clinical teams
- Strong knowledge of drug and alcohol treatment models and harm reduction interventions
- Experience implementing clinical governance frameworks and quality improvement initiatives
- In-depth understanding of safeguarding legislation and best practice
- Knowledge of UK drug strategy, social policy reforms, and relevant clinical legislation
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Strong organisational and budget management skills
- Proficiency in using electronic patient records and Microsoft Office applications
