Job Summary:
A Wood-Shop Operative is responsible for assisting in the production of high-quality wooden frames & assemblies, for use in glass fibre panel manufacture. This role involves working with wooden materials, operating machinery, assembling components, and ensuring quality control throughout the manufacturing process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Woodworking & Joinery:
- Measure, cut, shape, and assemble wood components according to specifications.
- Use hand tools and power tools such as saws, drills, sanders, and routers.
- Read and interpret technical drawings and work instructions.
- Machine Operation:
- Operate woodworking machinery, including panel saws, chop saws, planers, routers and edgers.
- Maintain and clean workshop machinery to ensure safety and efficiency.
- Assembly & Finishing:
- Assemble wooden structures, frames, and other joinery products.
- Perform finishing tasks such as sanding.
- Quality Control:
- Inspect materials and finished products for accuracy, durability, and quality standards.
- Identify and report any defects or inconsistencies in workmanship.
- Health & Safety Compliance:
- Follow workplace safety regulations and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Keep the workshop clean, organised, and free of hazards.
- General Duties:
- Assist in loading, unloading, and transporting wood materials.
- Work as part of a team to meet production deadlines and targets.
Key Skills & Experience:
✅ Basic woodworking and joinery skills (experience preferred but not essential).
✅ Ability to read and understand technical drawings.
✅ Proficiency with woodworking tools and machinery.
✅ Strong attention to detail and precision in measurements.
✅ Good physical fitness, as the role involves lifting and manual labour.
✅ Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Carpentry & Joinery (or equivalent) – desirable.
- Experience in a Wood-Shop, carpentry, or manufacturing environment – preferred.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: £13.00-£13.78 per hour
