Located in a lovely residential area of Cheltenham is a family-oriented home to 2 children between the ages of 12 and 14 years old. This therapeutic home supports children with both a diagnosis of Autism and Learning Disabilities, giving them the support and guidance to thrive. The home can take up to 3 children so a new child may move in in the future. Children here are lively and bubbly with a number of interests and hobbies that are encouraged, as well as attending full-time education.
Therapeutic training is provided to the team to best understand how to support the children with empathy, compassion and understanding. Models such as PACE are utilised on a daily basis to ensure the children feel cared for and listened to. Children in this home are supported with speech and language so experience supporting children with different styles of communication would be beneficial.
As a Children’s Emotional Wellbeing Support Worker, you will be responsible for the day-to-day care of the children, supporting their routines in an individual and child-centred approach. You will receive extensive training to enable you to work effectively within your role. A good understanding of care plans, risk assessments, safeguarding and residential care is important for this position.
Salary £29,000 - £32,000
Rota - a combination of long days and shorter shifts with 5 sleep ins per month

Role of a Children’s Emotional Wellbeing Support Worker
- Maintain the warm, welcoming, and family-oriented atmosphere of the home
- Engage with the children therapeutically and help build healthy relationships
- Act as a positive role model, setting a positive example to children and young people
- Provide support in a structure-rich, homely environment, being consistent and nurturing
- Following each child’s care plan closely to ensure their care is of the highest quality
- Liaise with family, teachers, social workers, and therapists to ensure positive outcomes
- Assisting the children in learning valuable life skills and building confidence
- Support and encourage children to engage with day-to-day activities (such as school and extracurricular activities)
- Managing behaviours that may challenge, and understanding the reasons for them
- Maintain accurate reports and keep thorough records
- Adhere to safeguarding policies, risk assessments, and care plans at all times
- Create a therapeutic, safe and healthy environment for the young people to thrive
Requirements of a Children’s Emotional Wellbeing Support Worker
- Must be a driver with a full UK Driving License
- Prior experience working with children aged 8-18 is ideal (experience in adult residential learning disabilities settings may also be considered)
- Experience working with children who have learning disabilities and autism is desirable
- Must hold a Level 3 residential childcare qualification or equivalent (Childcare, Health and Social Care, Education and other qualifications may be considered)
- Must have a friendly, family-oriented, and have a compassionate nature
- Must have a good understanding of therapeutic and safeguarding
- Be able to work a rota pattern including long days from 8am-10pm and some shorter shifts fro 12pm-10pm. 5 sleep ins a month required and will run on a pattern of 11am-11pm sleep in, waking at 7am-10:30am
