We're looking for an organised and proactive Health & Safety Coordinator to join our Legal & Risk team at Matalan. This is a varied role where you'll play a key part in helping us create a safe and compliant environment for our colleagues, customers and contractors across our retail estate and Support Hub.
Working closely with our Health & Safety team, you'll provide essential administrative support while acting as a trusted point of contact for stores and internal stakeholders. From coordinating training and maintaining compliance records to supporting accident investigations and fire safety processes, you'll help ensure our Health & Safety systems run smoothly every day.
No two days are the same. One day you could be delivering inductions to new starters, the next supporting stores with Health & Safety queries, coordinating suppliers, updating risk assessments or helping prepare documentation for insurance claims.
What you'll be doing
- Provide administrative support to the Health & Safety function within the Legal & Risk team.
- Support stores and our Support Hub with Health, Safety and Fire compliance, providing guidance and advice where needed.
- Maintain Health & Safety systems, records, trackers and documentation, ensuring information is accurate and up to date.
- Coordinate Health & Safety training, meetings and communications, including preparing agendas and taking meeting minutes.
- Deliver engaging Health & Safety inductions for new colleagues and contractors.
- Carry out weekly fire alarm testing and fire inspections within the Support Hub.
- Act as the Senior Fire Marshal during Support Hub fire evacuations.
- Support and coordinate our network of Fire Marshals and Health & Safety Champions.
- Assist with accident reporting and investigations, helping identify trends and preventative actions.
- Review and update risk assessments, policies and best practice guidance.
- Support the preparation of documentation relating to insurance and personal injury claims.
- Raise purchase orders, process invoices and assist with Health & Safety budget tracking.
- Liaise with suppliers, contractors and stores to coordinate equipment, training and Health & Safety requirements.
- Build strong relationships across the business to promote a positive Health & Safety culture.
You'll be someone who enjoys staying organised, building relationships and making a real difference behind the scenes. You have excellent attention to detail and enjoy balancing a variety of tasks, while remaining calm and professional when priorities change.

- DSE Assessor qualification.
