Job Purpose
To support the Home Manager in leading the care team to deliver high-quality, person-centered care that promotes independence, dignity, and wellbeing for all residents. To act as a role model, supervising and supporting care assistants in their duties and ensuring that all care is delivered in accordance with residents’ individual care plans, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership and Supervision Lead and support the care team during shifts, ensuring effective communication and task delegation. Provide guidance, supervision, and mentoring to care assistants, ensuring high standards of care and professionalism. Conduct handovers, ensuring accurate and relevant information is shared between shifts. Monitor and review care assistants’ performance and provide feedback where required. Support the Home Manager and Deputy in maintaining staffing levels and cover when necessary.
2. Resident Care and Support Deliver high-quality personal care and support to residents in accordance with their care plans. Promote residents’ dignity, privacy, choice, and independence at all times. Support residents with daily living activities including washing, dressing, toileting, eating, drinking, and mobility. Encourage participation in social, recreational, and therapeutic activities to enhance residents’ quality of life. Recognise and report any changes in residents’ health, wellbeing, or behaviour promptly. Ensure residents’ care plans and risk assessments are followed, updated, and reviewed regularly.
Medication Administration
- Safely administer, record, and store medication in line with company policy and current
legislation.
- Ensure the medication trolley is never left unattended or unlocked when not in use.
- Report and record any medication errors, refusals, or incidents immediately.
- Undertake competency checks and refresher training to maintain medication administration
standards.
Qualifications
- Experience working in a care home or senior care setting is preferred
- Supervising experience or leadership skills are advantageous for overseeing activities or supporting new staff
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with residents, families, and team members
- Ability to use IT systems for documentation and care planning purposes
- Compassionate attitude with a genuine interest in caring for older adults
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, demonstrating patience and empathy
