Position: Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer
Location: Telford, UK
Reporting to: Site Engineering Manager
Employment Status: Full Time, Permanent
Shift Pattern: 4 on 4 off (2 Days / 2 Nights)
Salary: £46,000 - £53,000 DOE
Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Maintenance Technician to join our Engineering Team, reporting directly to the Site Engineering Manager. This hands-on role is based in a fast-paced food production environment where reliability, safety, and efficiency are paramount.
As a Maintenance Technician, you will play a key role in developing and delivering the site’s Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) program, helping to implement a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) approach across all equipment and systems. You will ensure machinery runs at optimum performance levels, reduce downtime, and actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that support smooth, safe, and efficient manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Reliability
- Observe, recognize, and report on machinery or component defects or signs of impending failure, providing accurate data within the CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System).
- Perform planned and preventative maintenance in line with agreed schedules.
- Diagnose faults and test, repair, and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Carry out autonomous breakdown and preventative maintenance tasks, ensuring all work is accurately recorded in the CMMS.
- Interpret and implement technical service instructions and equipment data.
- Ensure effective shift handovers, sharing key technical and operational information.
- Liaise with OEMs and suppliers for technical support and expedite parts as required.
- Lead shift-based problem-solving activities where corrective actions are not immediately clear.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify and implement improvement opportunities to enhance equipment reliability and efficiency.
- Apply root cause analysis techniques such as 5 Whys and RCA (Root Cause Analysis) to drive sustainable corrective actions.
- Promote and participate in 5S workplace organization within engineering workshops and stores.
- Use CMMS data to support maintenance and reliability improvement initiatives.
- Record all parts used accurately in the CMMS stores system.
- Support TPM initiatives across the site to minimize waste and maximize value-adding activities.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Immediately report any health and safety concerns to the relevant manager or supervisor.
- Comply with all health and safety regulations, ensuring personal and team adherence to safe working practices.
- Take responsibility for personal safety and the safety of others.
- Follow established accident reporting and emergency procedures.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Support management in maintaining a safe and compliant workplace.
Quality & Food Safety
- Follow company policies and procedures in line with the Food Quality Management System and retailer-specific technical standards.
- Ensure all maintenance activities uphold hygiene, quality, and operational standards expected within a food production environment.
- Complete all records, documentation, and maintenance schedules legibly and accurately (e.g., PPMs, quality checks, return-to-work forms).
- Ensure positive release and departmental sign-offs are completed as required.
Environmental Responsibility
- Minimize environmental impact by reducing waste and energy usage (e.g., turning off lights or machinery when not in use).
- Identify and report poor environmental practices or conditions.
- Suggest and support initiatives to improve environmental performance in line with company policy.
Other Duties
- Participate in training and development activities as required, including off-site sessions.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and housekeeping during all work activities.
- Foster effective working relationships with colleagues across departments.
- Be flexible to work additional hours, weekends, and bank holidays as required to support business needs.
- Be willing to work in other areas of the business as required, based on skills and operational needs.
Key Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a mechanical and electrical maintenance role / multi-skilled within a manufacturing or food production environment.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Experience using a CMMS system for maintenance planning and reporting.
- Good understanding of TPM, 5S, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to health, safety, and quality standards.
Benefits & Terms
- Salary: £46,000 – £53,000 per annum (based on skills and experience)
- Shift Pattern: 4 on / 4 off (rotating days and nights, 7:00 am – 7:00 pm / 7:00 pm – 7:00 am)
- Holidays: 23 days annual leave

- Overtime: Paid at 1.25x (time and a quarter) after 48 hours per week
