This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated, enthusiastic, and flexible individual to provide specialist support and assistance to a 9-year-old child on the Autism spectrum with ADHD.
If you have experience in working with Autistic children/challenging behaviour this would be very beneficial to the role.
The ideal applicant would be required to be fun, young at heart and have knowledge and understanding to Autism or have worked with children with similar needs. Due to the nature of the job, the applicant would be required to be physically active. Child has high functioning hyperactivity and would be constantly on the move when outdoors.
Duties include:
- Taking client out to the park, play groups, walks in community settings
- Accompany/Assist parents with family outings
- Deliver high-quality care and support to individuals in their setting. Build confidence and awareness on and around the environment in which the child is in during time of work
- Assist with personal care tasks such as bathing, dressing and toileting
- Support individual with behavioural management and emotional well-being
- Help with daily tasks, activities and meal times
- Provide physical assistance including heavy lifting if and when required
Skills
- Previous experience in personal care, support work in an educational establishment or similar role is essential
- Understanding of the use of non verbal communication methods and techniques. i.e. pecs makatons social stories
- Understanding of speech and language therapy & occupational therapy. Preferred not essential
- Ability to commute to different locations as needed. Preferred not essential
- Strong understanding of patient care principles and practices
- Proficient in behaviour management techniques
- Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills
- Capability to handle challenging situations with empathy and professionalism
-Priority and commitment to time and role is essential.
Hours of work: 7 hours per week (may be more to be agreed with employer)
With possible opportunity of more hours of work during Easter and Summer holidays in assisting and supporting the child in a summer school setting (to be discussed and arranged with employer)
Right to work checks will be completed before beginning the support role.
Two employment references will be required.
An Enhanced DBS check will need to be carried out for this role.
Proof of right to work in UK required.
