Alternative Approach Family Support Ltd is a growing specialist family support provider dedicated to supporting children, young people, and their families. We work alongside families to build strong, positive relationships and help them lead fulfilling lives. We adopt a family centred approach to ensure that all our support plans are personalised and tailored to the needs, wishes and feelings of those we support.
We are currently seeking a part-time Family Support Worker on a 16 hour weekly contract to work across Merseyside and Cheshire. Your role may require travel to family homes, hospitals, and various community settings to provide high-quality support in areas such as emotional support, guidance with daily living, and providing information, advice, and assistance.
You will work across various support areas, including Respite, Family Time, Early Intervention, Mothers & Babies, and Emergency Support for families with young people who have additional needs. The primary goal is to provide compassionate, family-centred support that helps children, young people, and families thrive.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
● Build effective relationships with young people, families and external agencies.
● Provide 1:1 support, advice, practical assistance, and emotional guidance
● Liaise with families ahead of sessions to share plans and ideas, and implement support sessions as outlined in their family support assessments.
● Complete accurate records including daily observations, incident reports and car safety checks.
● Observe and document all interactions during family time sessions.
● Provide budgeting advice and crisis support, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of local services to effectively signpost families to relevant agencies that support their health and wellbeing.
● Contribute to individual risk management and behaviour support plans.
● Maintain professionalism and contribute to a supportive team culture
● Personal care may be required when supporting children or young people with complex or additional needs.
On-going Responsibilities:
Employees are expected to liaise with parents/guardians, professionals and other external agencies to ensure all young people and families are safeguarded at all times.
Attendance of scheduled team meetings as set by the Family Support Manager to ensure families receive appropriate support.
Continuous Professional Development, provided and fully-funded by Alternative Approach.
Person Specification:
You must be reliable, adaptable and have an ability to keep calm when met with challenging situations.
Good communication and listening skills.
Good organisational and time management skills.
Excellent at recognising and understanding the feelings of others.
Willing to travel to our Family Hubs in Walton and Ellesmere Port.
Desirable Experience:
At least 1 years’ experience working within Family Support or a similar setting, such as in children's residential or youth work.
Experience supporting children or young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder
To have an understanding of relevant frameworks and legislation relating to the support and care of children and young people.
