St Mary's University seeks to appoint a Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor in Computer Science with a specialist focus in Data Science. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research, and curriculum development across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, with responsibility for delivering modules including Database Systems, Data Analysis, Data Visualisation, Big Data Analytics, and Machine Learning.
The role involves designing and delivering high-quality, industry-informed teaching, supervising student projects, and contributing to programme development in data-driven computing disciplines. At Associate Professor level, the postholder will also be expected to provide academic leadership, lead research activity within Data Science or related fields, and supervise doctoral researchers.
This is a key appointment supporting the School’s strategic growth in data-intensive computing, artificial intelligence, and applied analytics, with a strong emphasis on employability, research impact, and industry engagement.
The succesful candidate will have strong expertise in Data Science, Machine Learning, and data-driven computing. Candidates should have a PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related discipline, along with a strong track record of teaching and/or research in higher education.
The candidates will demonstrate the ability to teach across core Data Science modules such as Database Systems, Data Analysis, Data Visualisation, Big Data Analytics, and Machine Learning, and will show evidence of curriculum development and student engagement.
For Senior Lecturer appointments, candidates should demonstrate established teaching expertise, scholarly activity, and engagement with industry or applied research. For Associate Professor appointments, candidates must demonstrate a sustained record of research leadership, external engagement, and doctoral supervision experience, including successful or ongoing PhD supervision.
