We work with homes that support children who are unable to thrive in mainstream environments, including those with SEN, SEND, SEMH needs, and challenging behaviours. Each setting is committed to providing a safe, structured, and nurturing environment.
Ideal Backgrounds Include:
- Children’s support work or adult care experience
- SEN/SEND experience within schools or care settings
- Youth work, sports coaching, or teaching assistant roles
- Mental health, prison service, ambulance or public services
- Nursery nurses or childcare backgrounds
- Students studying Child Development, SEND, Psychology, or Public Services
The Role:
As a Waking Night Support Worker, your role is to ensure the safety, wellbeing, and stability of children throughout the night. You will be working in a residential children’s home supporting young people with additional needs and behaviours that may challenge.
Full training is provided to ensure consistency and high standards of care across all staff.
Shift Pattern:
- Waking Night Shifts (typically between 21:30 – 07:30, may vary slightly by service)
As a bank worker, you can choose shifts that suit your availability, offering excellent flexibility and work-life balance.
Your Responsibilities:
- Provide overnight supervision and ensure the safety of all children
- Carry out regular welfare checks and respond to any needs during the night
- Support children who may struggle with sleep, anxiety, or emotional regulation
- Maintain a calm, structured, and reassuring environment
- Accurately record incidents, observations, and safeguarding information
- Support with evening settling routines and early morning handovers
- Work closely with the wider team to ensure consistency of care
This role requires patience, resilience, and the ability to remain calm and attentive during quieter but equally important night hours.
