Middlesbrough Council is seeking an experienced and motived Senior Area Care Manager to lead the delivery of high-quality Neighbourhood Services across the borough.
Reporting to the Environment Services Operations Manager, this role is responsible for managing horticulture, cleansing, and environmental services, ensuring our places and spaces are well maintained, safe and aligned with the Mayor’s Vision.
You will oversee service delivery across a defined area, working closely with internal departments, councillors, partners, and external stakeholders to ensure an efficient, responsive, and customer-focused service.
In this strategic and operational leadership role, you will manage resources, budgets, staffing and service performance to ensure delivery within agreed targets and timescales.
You will provide direct line management to teams across Environmental Services, driving a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and high performance. The post will involve supporting service transformation, developing a multi-skilled workforce through training initiatives, and identifying opportunities to grow the service through trading while protecting and enhancing core council provision.
You will also ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, including health and safety and environmental standards, while contributing to performance monitoring, procurement activities, and service planning.
We are looking for a strong leader with management experience in a relevant service area and a sound understanding of local authority operations.
To be successful in this role you need:

To have knowledge of health and safety and COSHH requirements.

Experience managing budgets and resources.

The ability to build effective working relationships across a wide range of stakeholders.

A relevant management qualification (or equivalent experience).

A full driving license.

Strong organisational and communication skills.
