The School Cleaner is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment across classrooms and general areas within a comprehensive school. This role is crucial in supporting the wellbeing of students, staff, and visitors by ensuring all facilities are cleaned to a high standard in compliance with health and safety regulations.

Clean and sanitise classrooms, including desks, chairs, floors, and teaching equipment.

Maintain cleanliness of general areas such as corridors, halls, offices, and communal spaces.

Empty bins and dispose of waste in accordance with school procedures.

Clean and disinfect toilets, washrooms, and staff facilities.

Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors as required.

Replenish cleaning supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.

Report any maintenance issues, damages, or safety hazards to the appropriate staff member.

Follow all health and safety guidelines, including COSHH regulations.

Ensure cleaning equipment is used, maintained, and stored safely.

Lock/unlock areas where required and ensure premises are left secure.

Previous cleaning experience, ideally within a school or similar environment.

Understanding of health and safety and hygiene practices.

Experience using cleaning equipment and materials safely.

Ability to follow instructions and adhere to cleaning schedules.

Physical ability to carry out cleaning tasks (e.g., lifting, bending, prolonged standing).
