Live-In Residential Support Worker
Job Overview
Castle House is seeking a committed, caring and resilient Live-In Residential Support Worker to provide high quality care and support to children and young people within a residential setting.
This role operates on a 3 days on, 3 days off rota basis, providing consistency, stability and relationship-based care to children and young people. During your working period, you will reside within the home and undertake sleep-in duties as required.
You will support children with emotional and behavioural needs, helping them to develop confidence, independence and positive life outcomes. The role requires a nurturing, patient and child-centred approach, with a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children at all times.
As part of a dedicated team, you will contribute to creating a warm, family-style environment where children feel safe, valued and supported to reach their potential.
Responsibilities
- Support children and young people with all aspects of daily living, including personal routines, education, health appointments and leisure activities
- Provide consistent care and support throughout the live-in shift pattern, promoting stability and positive relationships
- Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with children, helping them to feel safe, secure and emotionally supported
- Support children to develop independence, life skills, confidence and resilience
- Implement individual care plans, behaviour support strategies and risk assessments
- Encourage and participate in activities that promote well-being, education, personal development and positive experiences
- Prepare meals, support household routines and contribute to maintaining a homely environment
- Transport children to school, appointments, family time and activities where required
- Accurately complete daily records, reports and safeguarding documentation in line with company procedures
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals, including social workers, education providers and healthcare professionals
- Maintain high standards of safeguarding, health and safety and professional practice
- Respond appropriately to challenging behaviours using approved and trained approaches
- Undertake sleep-in duties as part of the live-in rota arrangement
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience working with children and young people is desirable but not essential
- Experience within residential childcare, education, youth work, health and social care or similar settings would be advantageous
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards this qualification)
- Full UK Driving Licence is desirable
- Ability to work a 3 days on / 3 days off rota, including sleep-in duties
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm, patient and resilient in challenging situations
- Good organisational and record-keeping skills
- Basic IT skills for completing records and documentation
- Genuine passion for supporting children and young people to achieve positive outcomes
