Earthfare is an independent, ethical and organic health retailer in the heart of Glastonbury. We are investing in a brand new deli at the front of the shop, expanding our fresh food offer to include artisan pizza by the slice, handmade sandwiches, pastries, SOS rolls, barista coffee and a hot counter. This is a great time to join a team that genuinely cares about food and the people it serves.
The Role
As a Deli Assistant you will be one of the first people our customers interact with at the counter. Your job is to make that experience brilliant each time. You will work across the deli operation, serving customers, keeping the counter looking its best, and supporting the wider team to make sure everything runs smoothly.
The role is 3 days per week, 21 hours, with the expectation that you will occasionally pick up additional shifts to cover holiday. This is a fast-paced role that suits someone who enjoys being busy, takes pride in their work and genuinely likes being people-facing.
What You'll Be Doing
- Serving customers at the deli counter with a great attitude, offering barista coffee, hot and cold drinks, and deli products to a high standard.
- Maintaining the presentation of the deli counter and front takeaway fridge at all times, keeping everything clean, well-stocked and looking its best.
- Packing, labelling and date-rotating stock correctly, and carrying out freshness and waste checks throughout the day.
- Operating the till accurately and at pace, handling transactions efficiently and with care.
- Working closely with the Deli and Kitchen Manager and kitchen team to stay on top of priorities and make sure nothing runs low.
- Following all health and safety guidelines at all times, staying vigilant and reporting any concerns promptly.
- Completing daily tasks to a high standard and contributing positively to team briefings.
- Carrying out accurate stock takes once trained, and flagging availability issues to your manager.
- Supporting across the shop floor and other areas of the store when needed.
What We're Looking For

- Good allergen awareness and a willingness to follow all food safety and hygiene procedures correctly.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts including weekends, and to pick up occasional extra shifts to cover holiday and sickness.
Desirable
- Barista training or previous experience making coffee.
- Previous experience in hospitality, food retail or a deli environment.
- A Level 2 Food Safety and Hygiene Certificate, or willingness to obtain one.

- You value the customer experience. Going above and beyond comes naturally to you.
