We’re looking for a reliable and motivated Grounds Technician to join our Gardens and Grounds team, helping to maintain safe, attractive and well-managed outdoor spaces across our University estate.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll play a key part in delivering high-quality grounds maintenance services that support teaching, learning and research environments.
As a Grounds Technician, you will:
- Carry out a wide range of grounds maintenance and landscaping duties
- Operate and maintain equipment such as mowers, tractors, ATVs and hand tools
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with procedures
- Support seasonal and reactive work (e.g. storm damage or peak periods)
- Undertake duties such as mowing, strimming, litter picking (including sharps), and bin emptying
- Support street cleaning operations, including graffiti and fly-posting removal
- Use University vehicles to visit sites across the campus estate
- Work flexibly across different sites and teams as required. Work independently to prioritise tasks and respond to changing needs
- Communicate with colleagues, students and contractors to ensure service quality
- Assist with mentoring and supporting new or less experienced team members
You’ll also be trusted to use your initiative and make day-to-day operational decisions to keep services running efficiently.
We’re seeking someone who has:
- Experience in grounds maintenance or a similar outdoor role
- A proactive, self-motivated approach with the ability to work independently
- Good understanding of health and safety practices
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities
- A full UK driving licence
Desirable (but not essential):
- NPTC or other relevant qualifications
- Experience using powered grounds equipment
- Knowledge of landscaping or conservation work
- Familiarity with Microsoft applications and smartphone use
Contract type: Open ended
Work pattern: Full time (35 hours)

Salary: £24,685 - £26,093 per annum
