We are working with a fantastic secondary school in Whitley Bay. This school prides itself on offering its students a holistic approach to education.
We are looking for a confident, caring, and personable graduate to join this school’s SEMH specialist provision. As a Graduate SEMH/SEN Teaching Assistant, you’ll be working closely with 3 students in particular who have varying needs. You’ll be providing 1:1 tailored support to each student in their lessons to ensure their needs are met and they have access to informative yet engaging education.
This is a highly rewarding role where you will be making an impact to the lives of students who have social-emotional mental health needs (SEMH) and special education needs (SEN).

This is a great opportunity for aspiring teachers who are keen to explore teaching as you’ll receive support from the school and our pre-teacher training programme throughout. This school is also part of a multi-academy trust that’s committed to supporting new teachers in their journey to becoming qualified… This trust has and a which allows graduates to teach subjects other than their chosen degree. ***Please note there isn’t a guarantee that either of these courses will be available to you upon working in the school.***

Full Time 35 hour working week: Monday – Friday
September 2026 - July 2027
£500 - £530 per week (term time only)
Develop your skills and gain invaluable classroom experience to support you in deciding if teaching is the right career for you
What We Are Looking For:
Hold a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2:2 (Psychology or related subject would be an advantage but not essential)
Experience working with individuals who have SEN and SEMH needs (ideal but not essential)
A confident, personable individual with a genuine passion for supporting children
An empathetic, adaptable and understanding individual who’s able to build strong trusting relationships
Inspiring individual who’s able to encourage and motivate children
Good listener with great problem-solving skills
