Dental Nurse - Prison Healthcare (Career Development Opportunity)

Are you and experienced Dental Nurse looking for your next challenge and an opportunity to develop beyond the traditional surgery environment?
We are looking for a motivated and organised Dental Nurse to join our friendly and supportive dental team within a busy prison healthcare setting. This is a unique role that combines clinical dental nursing with service coordination and administration, making it an excellent opportunity for someone interested in progressing towards a Senior Dental Nurse, Assistant Practice Manger or Practice Manager role in the future.
Unlike a typical dental nursing position, you will gain valuable experience in the operational side of dentistry, supporting the smooth running of the service, developing leadership skills and working closely with clinicians, healthcare teams and prison colleagues.
Full support and training will be provided to help the right candidate develop these additional skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide chairside support to the dentist during clinical sessions.
- Help coordinate the day-to-day running of the dental service.
- Manage patient applications, appointment bookings and waiting lists.
- Maintain accurate clinical records, logbooks and digital systems.
- Support service planning, reporting and compliance processes.
- Liaise with healthcare and prison teams to ensure patients receive timely care.
- Assist with triaging dental requests and prioritising appointments.
- Manage stock control, ordering and dental materials.
- Coordinate equipment servicing and supplier visits.
- Maintain excellent infection prevention and clinical standards.
- Support audits, quality improvement and service development projects.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who is:
- A qualified Dental Nurse with current GDC registration.
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
- Confident using IT systems and managing administrative tasks.
- A good communicator who enjoys working as part of a wider team.
- Interested in developing their career and learning how dental services are managed.
- Able to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities.
Previous prison experience is not required - we value the right attitude, reliability and willingness to learn.
Essential Requirements
- Valid GDC registration.
- Qualified Dental Nurse
- Good administrative and organisational skills.
Desirable
- 2+ years dental nursing experience
- Experience using Dentally and Vision
- Interest in progressing towards leadership or management position
