Job Title: Hope in Action Senior Practitioner
Reports To: Programme Lead
Location: Birmingham (home-based with City-wide travel)
Salary: £19,200 per year (full time salary £32,000)
Hours: 22.5 hours per week. Must be flexible to meet the needs of our clients and service and will include Fridays.
Duration: 12 months in the first instance with a view to extending to 30 months in total

Hope in Action: Hope in Action is a programme that supports adult parents/carers of children to change their relationship with drugs and/or alcohol. We provide support through mentoring and coaching using a systemic narrative practice approach and work in partnership with other organisations to meet clinical and therapeutic needs.
Job Purpose: To provide high-quality, person-centred support to adults who have a problematic relationship with drug and alcohol use and their significant others. You will work as part of a small team to deliver holistic interventions, care coordination, harm reduction, and recovery planning tailored to individuals’ needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Hold a caseload.
- Complete assessments and develop positive change action plans.
- Deliver 1:1 and group-based psychosocial interventions.
- Provide harm reduction advice.
- Co-ordinate care and signpost to wider services where required.
- Contribute to risk assessments and multi-agency meetings.
- Maintain accurate case notes and adhere to service protocols.
- Act as a peer supervisor for Hope in Action Practitioners
- Co-deliver team CPD.
- Support outreach activities and recruitment of new clients.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in substance misuse including Lived Experience
- Experience of independently managing a caseload
- Strong communication and organisation skills
- Understanding of safeguarding and harm reduction principles
- Empathy, resilience, and non-judgmental approach
- Ability to deliver group interventions
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent (Health & Social Care/Substance Misuse or another relevant subject)
Desirable:
- Training in psychosocial interventions (e.g. Motivational interviewing, CBT, Systemic Narrative Practice)
- Experience supervising or mentoring other practitioners
- Lived experience of recovery welcomed
- Experience of delivering training or CPD
- Familiarity with recording systems
