Join a local authority legal team dedicated to protecting vulnerable adults through expert advocacy in the Court of Protection.
Contract to start ASAP until 19-09-26 with a possible extension.
Job Purpose:
The principal purpose of the post is to provide high quality legal representation and skilled and effective advocacy on behalf of the Council in the Court of Protection; providing appropriate advice and assistance to enable the Council to deliver its statutory duties in respect of vulnerable adults.
To provide legal and procedural advice and support that is customer centred and gives value for money and proactively identifies ways to work more efficiently and effectively.
Responsibilities:
- Undertake contentious and non-contentious legal work (briefing Counsel as necessary) in order to protect and further the objectives of client services to ensure that the policies and decisions of the Council and instructions from client services are implemented accurately and within the timescale set
- Deliver legal advice to officers of the Council to ensure that policy is formulated and operational decisions are taken on a sound legal basis
- Participate in project teams to ensure the delivery of high quality legal advice and services to client services
- Provide legal and procedural advice to Members and outside bodies to ensure that policy and operational decisions are taken in the most effective and beneficial way
- Provide advice, guidance and training to other legal staff on contentious and non-contentious legal matters in order that other Services and Departments and other outside bodies as appropriate receive effective and high quality legal advice and services
- Identify research and interpret and apply the effects on service provision of new developments in the law to ensure that clients are able to deliver timely and responsive services
