Freelance Fieldworkers Brief – Freedom Festival Hull
Overview
We are looking for enthusiastic, reliable freelance staff to support audience research during Freedom Festival in Hull. As a fieldworker team member, you will play an important role in gathering valuable feedback from festival attendees, helping organisers understand audience experiences and shape future events.
This is a public-facing role suited to individuals who are confident, approachable, and comfortable engaging with a wide range of people in a lively festival environment. We are particularly keen to hear from those who have experience in the cultural sector in Hull.

Key Responsibilities
⁻ Proactively approach festival attendees in a friendly, professional manner
⁻ Clearly explain the purpose of the survey and encourage participation
⁻ Conduct short surveys (approximately 5-10 minutes) using a provided questionnaire
⁻ Accurately record responses via a mobile device, ensuring data quality
⁻ Work across designated festival locations as directed by the project manager
⁻ Meet survey targets where applicable while maintaining a positive approach
⁻ Represent the festival team in a professional and approachable way at all times
⁻ Follow all briefing instructions, including any data protection or consent guidelines
Requirements
⁻ Strong communication and interpersonal skills
⁻ Confidence initiating conversations with the public
⁻ Positive, proactive attitude and resilience in a busy environment
⁻ Good attention to detail when recording responses
⁻ Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
⁻ Comfortable working outdoors for extended periods
⁻ Previous experience in market research, events or customer-facing roles is desirable but not essential
Details
⁻ Location: Hull city centre (various Freedom Festival sites)
⁻ Dates: During Freedom Festival, 5 & 6 September 2026 (5 September, 11:00-22:00, 6 September, 11:00-16:30)
⁻ Training date: 26 August 2026, 1.5 hours online training. This will be either morning or evening, depending on all successful candidates availability.
⁻ Pay: £400 total for days as specified above
⁻ Equipment: Survey materials and/or devices will be provided
⁻ Briefing/Training: A short pre-event briefing will be required (remote or in person)
Pay: £200.00 per day
