Job Overview
Vale of Glamorgan Council is seeking an experienced Maintenance Officer / Plumber Multi-Trade to support building maintenance works across Council housing.
The role will mainly involve full bathroom refurbishments, adaptations, plumbing works and tiling in bathrooms and kitchens. Most of the work will be carried out within social housing properties, so candidates must be confident working respectfully in tenants’ homes and maintaining a professional approach at all times.
This role requires a qualified plumber with bathroom refurbishment experience, tiling ability and a full driving licence.

This is a hands-on plumbing and bathroom refurbishment role within social housing.
Candidates must be qualified in plumbing, able to tile bathrooms and kitchens, and have experience completing full bathroom refurbishments and adaptations.
A full driving licence is required.
Candidates without plumbing qualifications, bathroom refurbishment experience, tiling ability and a full driving licence are unlikely to be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out plumbing works within social housing properties
- Complete full bathroom refurbishments
- Complete bathroom adaptation works
- Tile bathrooms and kitchens to a good standard
- Work in occupied tenant properties respectfully and professionally
- Support building maintenance works across Council housing stock
- Work efficiently as part of an established team
- Ensure works are completed safely and to required standards
- Maintain good communication with tenants and colleagues
- Follow health and safety requirements on site
- Keep work areas clean, safe and tidy
- Travel to properties from the depot as required
- Represent the Council professionally when working in tenants’ homes
Essential Experience & Skills
- Qualified plumber
- Experience completing full bathroom refurbishments
- Experience carrying out bathroom adaptations
- Ability to tile bathrooms and kitchens
- Experience working in social housing or occupied domestic properties
- Full driving licence
- Ability to work Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm
- Ability to work efficiently within a team
- Good customer service and tenant-facing skills
- Respectful and professional approach when working in tenants’ homes
- Good practical maintenance skills
- Health and safety awareness
- Reliable and able to complete work to a good standard
Desirable
- Previous local authority housing maintenance experience
- Multi-trade maintenance experience
- Experience working from a depot-based repairs service
- Experience with disabled adaptations or accessible bathroom works
- Experience working in voids, responsive repairs or planned maintenance
Additional Information
Interview will be held on site at Alps Depot, Wenvoe, CF5 6AA.
Candidates should report to reception and ask for James Storey or Mark Slocombe.
The interview will be a formal chat and should last no more than 30 minutes.
