Kensington Medical Centre is a progressive, patient-centred GP practice in Belfast, delivering high-quality care in a modern primary care setting.
We are seeking a Medical Receptionist / Administrator to join our team. This role is initially offered as a 9-month maternity cover, however it is expected to become a permanent full-time position for the successful candidate.

The Role
This is a key frontline and administrative role within the practice, combining patient interaction with essential operational responsibilities.
You will:
- Welcome and assist patients at reception in a professional, empathetic manner
- Manage high volumes of calls, online requests, and patient queries
- Process patient registrations, records, and confidential data accurately
- Support clinical staff with administrative coordination
- Handle post, electronic communications, and workflow tasks
- Assist with general administration and practice operations
Who We’re Looking For
We are looking for a capable, organised and motivated individual who can thrive in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
We will consider applicants with or without GP experience.
You may be:
- Someone with previous experience in general practice, NHS, dental, pharmacy or similar settings
- Or a graduate with a degree in healthcare, business management, IT, or a related field
You will demonstrate:
- Excellent communication skills and a patient-focused approach
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Confidence with IT systems (Microsoft Office essential)
- Ability to work under pressure while maintaining accuracy
- Professionalism, adaptability, and willingness to learn
Essential Criteria
- 5 GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and Maths
- Experience working with the public (customer-facing role)
- Strong IT and administrative skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in general practice or healthcare setting
- Familiarity with EMIS or similar clinical systems
- Degree in Healthcare, Business, Management, IT or related field
- Experience handling sensitive or challenging situations
