Role Description
The Senior Design-Project Engineer will support the Engineering / Project Management Team on all design projects (R&D-projects and customer projects) from the start through to delivery and will also manage projects as the lead engineer / project manager where his experience allows; a focus will be on Aerospace projects. He will be part of the Engineering / Project Management Team and organising the projects together with the project engineers by using the existing system / infrastructure. The right candidate should have a minimum of 10 years’ work experience in the composites sector and holding a degree in engineering.
- Design / Concept phase – CATIA V5 / CPD, FEA: Femap, Altair / Hyperworks
- Supporting the quotations process (including supply chain settlement) from set up to the “Quotation Sign-off Process” in the Management Team
- Setting up projects with the engineering team– by using the existing ERP system (Progress plus – P+)
- Leading the Design / FEA sign-off for “Design Freeze Process”
- Manage Customer Purchase Order Signing-off Process and Sales Order / Works Order generation with engineering team.
- Leading the Project setup process including the work documentation for the life Works Orders
- Organising all work documentation, defining the workflow with “Shopfloor Manager” and defining the required organisational support (boxes for kits, definition / allocation of shelves, trolleys) in order to ensure a transparent and safe flow through the production.
- Define and implement the quality assurance gateways along the manufacturing process from design to delivery with “Shopfloor Manager”.
- Support the quality assurance engineer and ensure the required processes for new projects to be in line with AS 9100 with support of the quality assurance engineer.
Qualifications and skills
- Degree in Engineering or related field
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the composite industry with customer contact into the aerospace, defense, medicals or high-end automotive industry
- Strong knowledge and experience in composite materials, manufacturing methods, and processes
- Proficiency in using tools and equipment specific to composite component manufacturing
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot issues in the manufacturing process
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
The ideal candidate will have experience in managing a project from start to finish. This candidate will be able to create a plan of action which will consider a fixed timeline and evaluate risks. This individual should also have experience managing people and be an effective communicator.
Responsibilities
- Very good understanding of Composites Design and FEA and ability to support the engineering team.
- Manage the design phase and the lead the transition to the “first-off” on the shopfloor – including tooling, implementation of the manufacturing process and the corresponding work documentation.
- Good understanding of composites materials and processes to work out customer quotation.
- Evaluate and manage quotations for outsourced tools and materials with the engineering team and Sales support.
- Manage Purchase order (internal and external), works order, work description and delivery note documents through ERP system.
- Support management team on acquisition of new projects and manage point of contact for communications with customers.
- Thorough understanding of the composites manufacturing process to successfully project manage different kinds of projects.
- Manage relevant documentation of the project process (from start to finish) – Work documentation, PFMEA, Control Plans, SOPs and Visual Aids.
- Supports the quality assurance manager on his mission to AS9100 and IATF 16949.
