About us
SAL Healthcare is a CQC-registered home care provider. Our tagline is "care that feels like family", and we mean it about our team too: proper induction, real supervision, and a manager who answers the phone.
We are looking for a reliable care assistant to support adults living with dementia in their own homes, in and around Ringwood. Immediate start available.
About the role
This is visiting dementia care, and we are honest about what it asks of you. The people you support may become anxious, unsettled, or resistant to care at times. The right carer knows this is part of the condition, not something personal. You will reassure, explain what you are doing as you do it, redirect calmly, and try again. Repetition and patience are not extras in this role; they are the job done well.
This is stable, local work. Your visits are planned locally in and around Ringwood wherever possible, and you will work with regular clients wherever we can arrange it, so you build real relationships rather than rushing between strangers. Visits run across the day, with some evenings and weekends. The rota is discussed and agreed with you before you start.
What you will do
- Personal care delivered with dignity, warmth and patience
- Medication support with accurate, timely records
- Meal preparation, companionship, and gentle prompting through daily routines
- Calm reassurance and redirection when someone is anxious or distressed
- Clear written care notes and spoken handovers after every visit
- Noticing and reporting changes in wellbeing early, so small things stay small
What we need from you
- Experience in care (home care, residential, or supported living); experience supporting people living with dementia is preferred
- A valid driving licence for use in the UK and access to your own car. This is essential: visits are spread around the Ringwood area
- The right to work in the UK. We are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role
- Clear spoken and written English, because reassurance, care notes and handovers all depend on it
- Willingness to complete an enhanced DBS check with the adults' barred list (any offer is conditional on this) and to provide two references
The person we are looking for
- Calm, patient and emotionally steady, including on the harder days
- Someone who understands that behaviour is communication, and responds with reassurance rather than frustration
- Quick-thinking and observant, able to adapt in the moment when a visit does not go to plan
- Reliable and punctual, with good judgement about when to handle something and when to call the office
- Kind. It shows in the small things, and our clients and their families notice
What we offer
- £13.00 to £13.50 per hour, plus mileage paid at 45p per mile
- Stable, local work in and around Ringwood
- Continuity with regular clients wherever possible
- Paid induction and shadow shifts before you work alone, plus the Care Certificate if you do not already hold it
- A supportive manager and real supervision, not a name you never hear from
- Immediate start available
- A fair rota, agreed with you, not imposed on you
To apply, send a short note about your care experience along with your CV. We are reviewing applications daily and will move quickly for the right person.
