About the Role:
This role focuses on delivering high-quality Health and Wellbeing and Community Involvement provision to learners with complex needs, including those with Additional Learning Needs (ALN). You will work with post-16 learners across Pathway 2 and Pathway 3 programmes, supporting them to develop independence, confidence, self-advocacy and effective communication skills.
The position requires a flexible and responsive approach, with the ability to provide emotional coaching and tailored support to meet individual learner needs. You will play a key role in creating inclusive, learner-centred environments that enable students to thrive and achieve their personal goals.
You will also work collaboratively across multiple sites, engaging with learners who have similar needs and contributing to a consistent, high-quality experience across provision.
We are looking for a tutor whose practice empowers learners to take ownership of their own learning journey; enabling them to self scaffold and manage positive behaviours that ensure that they meet their learning goals. The successful candidate will be responsible for subject planning, delivery and assessment, ensuring a positive and value-driven experience for Learners. This role will also involve supporting learners working towards developing independence and employability skills delivered on a non-accredited curriculum. We are looking for passionate, committed teaching professionals who can consistently teach excellent, inspirational lessons.
The role will involve working at our City Centre and Colcot Road Campuses and working collaboratively with the wider staff team to ensure that learners show progression during their time in college, develop skills and pass their qualifications. Leaners on these courses may have not enjoyed school, have support needs, or be re-engaging in education; for this reason, the successful candidate will be warm and engaging, with a demonstratable understanding of inclusive practice.
Who you’ll be working with:
Cardiff and Vale College’s Foundation Learning department deliver courses for young people with Additional Learning Needs and/or Disabilities and those at risk of becoming NEET. The department grows year on year and our curriculum for 2026/27 includes 32 courses for 400+ potential learners across 6 different sites.
All Foundation Learning courses use a mixture of traditional classroom-based lessons and project-based learning to create a vibrant and engaging curriculum. Our team use their wider skill sets and work history to enhance the curriculum, ensuring that our students are skilled and employable people. We are passionate about teaching and learning and recognise that, like our learners, each new staff member has had their own learning journey. For this reason, we pride ourselves on our CPD program, focusing on what we teach and how we teach it and offer regular workshops and termly CPD focused on making teachers confident that they are making an impact in the classroom. The role has the potential to grow depending on the needs of the department and the skill set of the applicant.
About You:
You will demonstrate experience of teaching learners with additional learning needs and those at risk of becoming NEET alongside experience of development and delivery of a person-centred curriculum.
You will be degree educated and hold a relevant teaching qualification (PGCE. PCET, QTS).
