About the Role:
We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a 38-year-old gentleman in Perranporth, Cornwall, who is looking for a part-time Support Worker to join his existing team. This is a fantastic opportunity to support a funny, social, and goal-driven man as he builds structure into his life, strengthens his independence, and prepares for meaningful activities including voluntary work, wellness pursuits, and family contact with his young child. The role blends day-to-day community support with extended live-in contact visit work away from home, making this ideal for someone who enjoys variety, relationship-building, and purposeful rehab-led care.
Pay:
- Weekday hourly rate: £24.00
- Weekend hourly rate: £26.00
- Bank Holiday hourly rate: £48.00
- Sleep-ins: £100.00 flat rate per night (only during contact visits)
Benefits:
- Mileage reimbursed at £0.45 per mile. Our client does not drive, so you will be driving him to activities, appointments, and contact visits in your own vehicle, which adds up to a meaningful monthly benefit on top of your hourly pay.
- Paid accommodation, arranged in advance, during all live-in shifts
- Self-employed role: you manage your own tax, National Insurance, and insurance
Shift Patterns:
This role includes:
1. Weekly daytime shifts (at our client's home in Perranporth)
Weekdays: 10:00 to 15:00 .
2. Live-in shifts (away from home)
Roughly once a month, and during school holidays, you will travel with our client to support contact visits with his young child. You will stay with him in pre-booked, paid accommodation and be his dedicated support throughout. These shifts are shared with our client's existing worker.
- Monthly (one weekend): Friday 1:00pm to Sunday 5:00pm
- School holidays: at least one full week per school holiday (Monday to Sunday)
During live-in shifts you will support structured day activities (theme parks, meals, days out) and be a safe, positive presence for our client. You will have your own space at the accommodation.
About Our Client:
Our client is 38, lives independently in Perranporth with his Jug (Jack Russell x Pug cross) Archie, and has a big personality to match. He is funny, sociable, direct, and well-known in his local community. He has sustained a significant acquired brain injury which affects his executive function, emotional regulation, and pacing, but with the right support around him, he is building a genuinely fulfilling life.
He is working towards voluntary, and eventually paid work and getting his driving licence. He attends weekly personal training sessions, loves long dog walks with Archie, and has a wide range of interests including TV and film, cooking, fashion, football (Chelsea), music, gigs, wellness, and gardening. He also has a young child who he sees regularly and loves deeply. Supporting these visits is one of the most meaningful parts of this role
Our client has a strong multidisciplinary team around him including a neuropsychologist, speech and language therapist, and OT/case manager. He has an existing support worker, and this role is to build additional capacity and consistency.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Accompanying our client on dog walks with Archie
- Supporting community access: shopping, appointments (dentist, vet, medical), local activities
- Encouraging and supporting cooking and independent living skills at home
- Supporting voluntary work activity (when confirmed) as a stepping stone to paid employment
- Supporting our client with pacing, routine, and day-to-day organisation in line with guidance from the clinical team
- Travelling with our client, including live-ins to support for visits with his young child (shared with the existing support staff).
- Supporting structured activities during contact visits (theme parks, day trips, meals) and providing a safe, positive presence throughout
- Working alongside the family contact agency as a second pair of hands during those visits
- Using the team's simple prompting system to help our client stay on track in public
- Keeping things light and positive, redirecting any frustration with warmth and a bit of humour
- Completing accurate and timely records following all outings and sessions
- Remaining alert to safeguarding risks, including vulnerability to exploitation
Candidate Requirements:
Non-negotiable
- Experience supporting individuals with an acquired brain injury
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
- Available for live-in support: 1 weekend per month (Friday 1:00pm to Sunday 5:00pm) during term time, and 1 full week per school holiday (Monday to Sunday)
- Confident with redirection, positive reinforcement, and boundary-setting
- Ability to risk assess and safeguard against exploitation
- Comfortable working around dogs
Preferred
- Experience with children or awareness of child safeguarding considerations
- Active interests that align with our client's, such as outdoor activities, sport, music, cooking, wellness, or similar
- Confident, quick-thinking, and able to hold their own in banter while remaining professional
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary team and completing session records
