About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Further Education Teacher to join a specialist SEN provision within sixth form. This is a rewarding opportunity to work with young people and learners aged 16–19 who have a range of additional needs, including autism spectrum conditions, learning disabilities, and PMLD / SLD.
You will play a key role in delivering high-quality, individualised learning programmes that support learners in developing academic, vocational, and life skills to promote independence and successful transition into adulthood.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to learners with diverse SEN needs
- Develop Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) in collaboration with support staff and external professionals
- Use a range of teaching strategies to support communication, engagement, and progress
- Assess, monitor, and record learner progress in line with curriculum and EHCP outcomes
- Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
- Work closely with teaching assistants, therapists, and SEN coordinators
- Contribute to EHCP reviews and multi-agency meetings
- Promote independence, employability skills, and personal development
Essential Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification in Further Education
- Experience working with learners with SEN, ideally in a post-16 or FE setting
- Strong understanding of autism, learning disabilities, and inclusive teaching strategies
- Ability to differentiate effectively and adapt learning materials
- Excellent communication and behaviour management skills
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people
Desirable Experience
- Experience delivering vocational or life skills-based learning
- Knowledge of EHCPs and person-centred planning
- Background in SEN-specific qualifications or training (e.g. Team Teach, PECs, Makaton)
- Experience working in a specialist or alternative provision setting supporting students with SLD / PMLD / learning difficulties and complex needs
