Kip McGrath is looking for positive, reliable and enthusiastic Primary Tutors to join our growing team across our Kilmarnock, Troon and Irvine education centres.
We are seeking primary teachers who are confident supporting pupils with both Maths and English from the early primary stages through to S2.

About the role
You will teach pupils in a supportive small-group environment while providing individual instruction, feedback and encouragement throughout each session.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Teaching primary pupils in Maths and English up to CFE level 3
- Delivering structured lessons using the Kip McGrath methodology and learning platform
- Supporting pupils with gaps in learning and confidence
- Helping pupils develop strong foundations in numeracy and literacy
- Supporting reading, comprehension, spelling, grammar and writing
- Supporting pupils preparing for the move from primary to secondary school
- Building positive and encouraging relationships with pupils
- Maintaining accurate online records of pupil progress and goals
- Providing clear and professional feedback to parents when required
- Following safeguarding, centre and data-protection procedures
- Attending scheduled sessions reliably and punctually
- Working positively as part of the wider Kip McGrath team
Sessions take place mainly after school, during evenings and at weekends.
Tutors will normally take responsibility for one or more regular weekly teaching sessions, with the possibility of additional hours as pupil numbers and centre timetables grow.

Tutors are not expected to create lesson plans from scratch. Structured resources, programmes and software are provided.
About you
To succeed in this role, you should have:
- A teaching qualification, relevant degree or current place on a teaching degree
- Strong knowledge of primary Maths and English
- A friendly, professional and encouraging manner
- The ability to build positive relationships with children and parents
- Confidence using computers and learning software
- Good organisation and attention to detail
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A genuine interest in helping children build confidence and make progress
- The reliability to commit to the regular sessions you agree to teach
Essential requirements
- Relevant teaching qualification, degree or current teacher-training status
- Confidence teaching both primary Maths and English
- Right to work in the United Kingdom
- PVG Scheme membership, or willingness to complete the required application
- Ability to work in person at one or more of our Ayrshire centres
- Availability for at least two regular weekly teaching sessions and two assessment sessions
Desirable requirements
- GTCS registration
- Experience teaching or tutoring primary-age pupils
- Experience working with Curriculum for Excellence
- Experience supporting pupils with gaps in literacy or numeracy
- Experience supporting pupils who have lost confidence in learning
- Experience working with pupils who require additional encouragement or structure
- Availability across more than one evening or weekend session

Successful applicants may work at one or more of the following centres:

- Kip McGrath Troon
- Kip McGrath Irvine
Applicants should indicate clearly which centre or centres they would be able to travel to.
There is no requirement to work across all three centres.

Hours and pay
This is a part-time role with flexible and variable hours.
Expected hours: 2–8 hours per week initially
Teaching sessions are paid at:
£36.00 per teaching hour
The number of hours offered will depend on:
- Your availability
- The centre or centres you are able to work from
- Pupil enrolment
- The developing centre timetables
- Your ability to commit to regular weekly sessions
Additional hours may become available as pupil numbers grow.
Any required training, meetings or duties outside normal teaching sessions will be discussed and paid in accordance with the terms offered.
