Pay Rate: PAYE £22.20 per hour | Umbrella £28.95 per hour
Seven Resourcing are currently recruiting for an experienced Workshop Supervisor to join a Local Authority fleet maintenance service in Barnsley. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled fleet or workshop professional with strong supervisory experience to lead operational vehicle maintenance within a municipal environment.
The role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of fleet servicing, repairs, compliance, and workshop operations, ensuring vehicles, plant, and associated equipment are maintained safely, efficiently, and in line with statutory requirements.
Job Purpose
To manage and supervise the Local Authority workshop function, ensuring all fleet maintenance activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and within budget. The Workshop Supervisor will lead a team of technicians, oversee compliance standards, and ensure all vehicles and equipment are maintained to required legislative and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise servicing, maintenance, and repair of fleet vehicles, plant, and equipment
- Ensure all work is completed efficiently, safely, and to required quality standards
- Minimise vehicle downtime through effective planning and workshop coordination
- Act as Authorised Examiner Delegated Manager for MOT and HGV testing processes
- Prepare and manage vehicles for MOT and compliance inspections
- Lead, manage, and support a team of workshop staff
- Oversee recruitment, training, performance, and staff welfare
- Provide direction, supervision, and operational coordination within the workshop
- Manage maintenance planning, quality control, and equipment servicing schedules
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations and workshop procedures
- Support budget monitoring and provide accurate operational reporting
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of fleet maintenance regulations and standards
- Contribute to continuous improvement of workshop operations
Candidate Requirements
- Level 3 Motor Vehicle Qualification (essential)
- Management qualification at Level 4 (or willingness to achieve within 12 months)
- IOSH Managing Safely Certificate (desirable/essential depending on service)
- Category C driving licence
- Experience managing a fleet or workshop maintenance team
- Strong knowledge of municipal or commercial vehicle maintenance
- Experience with MOT preparation and compliance processes
- Ability to lead, motivate, and manage staff effectively
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety in workshop environments
- Willingness to undertake Authorised Examiner Delegated Manager qualification
