Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accounts Assistant to support the finance function with day-to-day accounting operations. The successful candidate will have strong experience in ledger management, bookkeeping, and industry-specific requirements such as CIS and reverse VAT.
Key Responsibilities
Purchase Ledger
- Process supplier invoices accurately using Xero
- Match invoices to purchase orders and delivery notes
- Raise and manage purchase orders
- Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies
- Prepare and process supplier payment runs
Sales Ledger
- Raise and manage customer invoices, including job-based invoicing via Joblogic
- Maintain accurate records of sales transactions in Xero
- Allocate customer payments and reconcile accounts
Credit Control
- Monitor aged debt and actively chase outstanding payments
- Build relationships with customers to ensure timely collections
- Resolve invoice queries promptly to minimise delays in payment
Bookkeeping
- Maintain accurate financial records in line with company procedures
- Perform bank reconciliations
- Assist with month-end processes and reporting
Compliance & Specialist Knowledge
- Apply and maintain compliance with CIS (Construction Industry Scheme)
- Handle transactions involving reverse VAT correctly
- Ensure accurate VAT treatment across all transactions
Key Skills & Experience
Essential
- Proven experience using Xero accounting software
- Strong background in:
o Purchase ledger (including purchase orders)
o Sales ledger and invoicing
o Bookkeeping
o Credit control
- Experience using Joblogic (or similar job management system)
- Solid understanding of:
o CIS
o Reverse VAT
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Good organisational and time management skills
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
Qualifications
- AAT Level 3 (or equivalent) – essential
Desirable (Nice to Have)
- Experience working in construction or services industries
- Exposure to month-end reporting and finance support tasks

Pay: £27,000.00-£31,000.00 per year
Experience:
- CIS and reverse VAT: 2 years (preferred)
- Accounting: 2 years (preferred)
