Paediatric Dentist – Job Description
Role Overview
A Paediatric Dentist specializes in providing comprehensive oral healthcare to infants, children, and adolescents, including those with special healthcare needs. The role focuses on preventive care, early diagnosis, and treatment of dental conditions while creating a positive, child-friendly environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform dental examinations, diagnoses, and treatment planning for children.
- Provide preventive dental care, including cleanings, fluoride treatments, and sealants.
- Treat dental issues such as cavities, tooth decay, and gum disease.
- Perform restorative procedures (fillings, crowns, pulp therapy).
- Manage dental emergencies (e.g., trauma, infections).
- Educate children and parents on oral hygiene and nutrition.
- Monitor growth and development of teeth and jaws.
- Use behavior management techniques to ensure a comfortable patient experience.
- Administer local anesthesia and, where qualified, sedation.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals when needed.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Degree in Dentistry (DDS or BDS or equivalent).
- Completed specialty training in Paediatric Dentistry.
- Valid dental license/registration (e.g., with General Dental Council in the UK).
- Certification in pediatric advanced life support (desirable).
- Strong knowledge of child psychology and behavior management.
