Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Deputy Leader to start in August 2026 to support the management and delivery of high-quality childcare within our nursery setting. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a passion for working with children, and experience in early childhood education. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your management abilities whilst making a positive impact on children's development and wellbeing. The Deputy Leader will work closely with the Senior Management Team to ensure a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for all children.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Lead Practitioner in planning and implementing engaging activities tailored to children’s developmental needs
- Support the supervision and mentoring of nursery staff and volunteers to ensure high standards of care and education
- Contribute to maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment in accordance with health and safety policies
- Help monitor children's progress and communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding their child's development
- Take on leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Lead Practitioner, ensuring smooth daily operations
- Support the organisation of nursery routines, including meal times, play sessions, and rest periods
- Assist with administrative tasks such as record keeping, attendance monitoring, and compliance documentation
Requirements
- Childcare qualifications such as NVQ Level 5 in Childcare or equivalent
- Childcare qualifications such as NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and willing to work towards a Level 5
- Experience of at least 2 years in nursery or childcare settings
Desirable Skills
- Experience working with children, ideally within early childhood education or childcare environments
- Strong communication skills in English, capable of liaising effectively with children, parents, and team members
- Knowledge of childcare regulations, health & safety standards, and safeguarding procedures
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while demonstrating initiative and organisational skills
Salary - To be discussed
- full time - 30 hours per week (8:30am-2:30pm Monday - Friday)
- All school term holidays and summer holidays will be paid
