Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Nursery Cook to prepare nutritious and appealing meals for our young children. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food preparation and a strong understanding of food safety standards. This role involves creating balanced meals in accordance with dietary guidelines, ensuring a safe and hygienic kitchen environment, and contributing to the overall wellbeing of our nursery children. The Nursery Cook will work closely with staff to meet the nutritional needs of the children and support their growth and development.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook healthy, age-appropriate meals and snacks for children in line with dietary requirements and nutritional guidelines.
- Ensure all food is prepared in a hygienic manner, adhering to food safety standards at all times.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area, including washing utensils, cleaning surfaces, and storing ingredients correctly.
- Assist with menu planning to provide a varied and balanced diet for children.
- Monitor stock levels of ingredients and notify management when supplies need replenishing.
- Follow health and safety regulations to prevent accidents or food contamination within the kitchen environment.
- Collaborate with nursery staff to accommodate special dietary needs or allergies of individual children.
- Keep accurate records of food preparation, storage, and disposal as required by health regulations.
Qualifications
- Experience in food preparation or cooking, preferably within a childcare or nursery setting.
- Knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices.
- Previous experience working in a kitchen environment, ideally within a restaurant or catering context.
- Ability to prepare meals efficiently while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organisation.
- Good organisational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- A genuine interest in supporting children's nutrition and wellbeing.
