Job Purpose
The Senior Community Carer is responsible for delivering high-quality person-centred care to clients within their own homes while providing leadership, guidance, and support to care staff. The role includes participating in the on-call rota to ensure continuity of care and operational support outside normal working hours.
Key ResponsibilitiesCare Delivery
- Provide compassionate, professional, and person-centred care to service users in accordance with individual care plans.
- Support clients with personal care, medication administration, nutrition, mobility, and daily living activities.
- Monitor and report changes in service users' physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing.
- Maintain accurate and timely care records and documentation.
Leadership and Supervision
- Support and mentor care staff, promoting best practice and high standards of care.
- Assist with the induction, training, and ongoing development of new care workers.
- Conduct spot checks, competency assessments, and quality monitoring visits as required.
- Act as a role model for professionalism, dignity, respect, and safeguarding.
Communication and Coordination
- Liaise effectively with service users, families, healthcare professionals, and external agencies.
- Report incidents, concerns, and safeguarding matters promptly and in accordance with company policies.
- Support care coordinators with care package reviews and service delivery improvements.
On-Call Responsibilities
- Participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota as required.
- Respond to emergency calls from care staff, service users, or family members.
- Provide guidance and support to staff during evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
- Arrange emergency cover for care visits when required.
- Escalate serious incidents, safeguarding concerns, or operational issues to management as appropriate.
- Maintain detailed records of on-call activity and actions taken.
- Ensure continuity and safe delivery of care services outside normal office hours.
Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Promote safeguarding, health and safety, equality, diversity, and inclusion.
- Support compliance with relevant legislation and regulatory standards.
- Participate in audits, inspections, and quality improvement initiatives.
Person SpecificationEssential
- NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent).
- Previous experience in a senior care or community care role.
- Experience administering medication.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Good written and verbal English skills.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
- Willingness to participate in an on-call rota.
Desirable
- NVQ/QCF Level 4 or above in Health and Social Care.
- Experience conducting staff supervision or competency assessments.
- Knowledge of CQC regulations and standards.
- Experience using electronic care planning systems.
Working Hours
- Flexible working pattern based on service needs.
- Participation in a scheduled on-call rota, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
- Additional remuneration may be provided for on-call duties in accordance with company policy.
