Job Description – Multi‑Tradesperson
Working at HMP Cardiff - security clearance will be required, which takes a 2-6 weeks.
Main Purpose
To carry out routine repairs and maintenance to tenanted domestic properties, including general fabric repairs, decoration, joinery and multi‑trade maintenance tasks.
Size & Scope
To deliver a wide range of maintenance works in occupied and void residential properties, ensuring all tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and to required quality standards.
ResponsibilitiesGeneral Responsibilities
- Care and proper use of tools, equipment, materials, and company property.
- Maintain high standards of health and safety for yourself and others in accordance with policy and procedures.
- Deliver all allocated works to the required quality within set timescales.
- Follow instructions from line management and the central coordination team.
- Undertake fabric repairs in both occupied and void properties.
- Participate in out‑of‑hours call‑out duties in line with rota requirements.
Role‑Specific Responsibilities
- Carry out multi‑trade maintenance including joinery, tiling, minor plumbing, minor plastering, and general repairs.
- Ensure accurate measuring and scoping of works.
- Apply industry best practices to all maintenance activities.
- Solve on‑site problems effectively and proactively.

Person RequirementsProfessional Profile / Qualifications
- Time‑served apprenticeship in a relevant trade
- City & Guilds, NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in joinery or similar discipline
- Full UK driving licence

- Basic numeracy and literacy
- Joinery (core skill)
- Tiling
- Minor plumbing (desirable)
- Minor plastering (desirable)
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Effective time management
- Ability to use a PDA device
- Good understanding of personal H&S, method statements and risk assessments
Experience
- Ideally 2 years of relevant trade experience
