Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Refuse and Recycling Operative to join our waste management team. This role involves the collection, handling, and disposal of refuse and recyclable materials in a safe and efficient manner. The successful candidate will play a vital part in maintaining cleanliness and environmental standards within the community. Prior experience in waste collection or mechanical knowledge is advantageous, alongside the ability to perform heavy lifting regularly.
Duties
- Operate refuse collection vehicles safely and efficiently during scheduled routes.
- Collect and load refuse and recyclable materials from designated locations.
- Ensure all waste is handled in accordance with health and safety regulations.
- Assist with the maintenance and basic mechanical checks of collection vehicles and equipment.
- Sort recyclable materials as required, ensuring proper segregation.
- Maintain accurate records of collections and report any issues or hazards encountered during shifts.
- Follow all operational procedures to minimise environmental impact and optimise collection routes.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in waste collection or a similar role is desirable but not essential.
- Mechanical knowledge or basic technical skills are advantageous for vehicle checks and minor repairs.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely on a regular basis.
- Good organisational skills with an eye for detail.
- Physical fitness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Valid driving licence suitable for operating refuse collection vehicles is preferred but not mandatory for all roles. Pay: £12.71-£13.00 per hour
