Your new company
Hays Education are working in partnership with a well-established and reputable secondary school in Wigan to recruit a School Business Manager for a September start. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a forward-thinking school at a pivotal time, following the upcoming retirement of a long-standing postholder. The school is keen to engage with experienced professionals now, and we are inviting interested candidates to get in touch for a confidential discussion about the role and their current job search. Shortlisting is scheduled to take place in the final week of July.
Your new role
This is a varied and integral leadership position within the school, combining both strategic and operational responsibilities. The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day management of the school office, ensuring efficient administrative systems and processes are in place, while also leading on financial operations. Responsibilities will include budget planning and monitoring, financial reporting, managing income and expenditure, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. In addition, you will be responsible for line managing administrative staff and supporting the wider leadership team with operational decision-making.
What you'll need to succeed
The ideal candidate will have previous experience working within a school setting, ideally in a School Business Manager or senior administrative capacity, with strong knowledge of school finance and office management. You will need to be highly organised, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities within a busy secondary school environment. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential, along with confidence in overseeing both financial processes and administrative teams. Experience with relevant school systems and financial software will be highly advantageous.
What you'll get in return
In return, this role offers the opportunity to secure a long-term position within a supportive and well-regarded school, with the role initially offered on a temporary basis and transitioning to a permanent contract for the right candidate. You will be joining a collaborative leadership team and have the chance to make a meaningful impact on the operational success of the school. Hays Education will provide ongoing support throughout the recruitment process, including a confidential consultation to discuss your experience and career aspirations in more detail.
