Solsken Ltd is currently recruiting Health Care Assistants to join a dedicated care team supporting an adult male with Motor Neurone Disease and complex care needs in his own home in Woodseats, Sheffield.

About the Role
You will be supporting an adult male with MND and complex care needs in his own home. This role involves providing safe, respectful and person-centred support in line with the individual’s care plan, risk assessments, clinical guidance and identified outcomes.
Communication is extremely important in this role. Due to the nature of the individual’s condition, applicants must be able to communicate clearly and fluently in English, with patience, sensitivity and confidence. This will help ensure the individual’s needs, wishes and choices are understood and responded to safely.
Humour is important to this individual, and he would benefit from carers who have a bubbly, friendly and positive personality. The successful candidates should be able to build a warm, respectful and professional working relationship, while promoting dignity, choice and independence.
The individual has a small dog in the home who is very dear to him, so applicants must be dog-friendly and comfortable working in a household with a small dog.
The individual would also like to access his local community, so applicants should be confident supporting community-based activities in a safe, respectful and person-centred way.
Shifts Available
Day shifts and waking night shifts are available Monday to Sunday.
- Days: 08:00–20:00
- Waking Nights: 20:00–08:00
Applicants should be flexible and willing to support the wider team with additional shifts where possible, including sickness and annual leave cover.
What You’ll Be Doing
In this role, you will support an adult male with MND and complex care needs in his own home, helping him to remain safe, comfortable and supported by a consistent and competent care team.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing high-quality, person-centred care in line with the individual’s care plan, risk assessments and identified outcomes.
- Supporting the individual with personal care in a respectful, dignified and sensitive way.
- Providing complex care support in line with your training, competencies and agreed clinical protocols.
- Communicating clearly and patiently with the individual, taking time to understand his needs, wishes and choices.
- Supporting the individual’s comfort, emotional well-being, dignity and quality of life.
- Providing companionship and engaging in meaningful conversation, including humour and topics of interest to the individual.
- Supporting the individual to access the local community, where appropriate, in line with his wishes, care plan and risk assessments.
- Following all care plans, risk assessments, moving and handling guidance, clinical guidance and company policies at all times.
- Observing for any changes in the individual’s health, presentation, breathing, comfort, communication, mood or general well-being and reporting concerns promptly.
- Helping to keep the individual clinically safe by following escalation procedures, safeguarding guidance and agreed clinical protocols.
- Working closely with the existing care team, managers, clinical staff and healthcare professionals to ensure safe and consistent care.
- Maintaining accurate, factual and up-to-date care records in line with company policy, CQC requirements and relevant health and social care legislation.
- Working in line with CQC regulations, the Health and Social Care Act, safeguarding responsibilities, company policies and all relevant legislation.
- Respecting the individual’s home, privacy, routines, preferences and choices at all times.

- Flexible and willing to support the wider team by covering sickness, annual leave and additional shifts where possible.
- Able to work independently as well as part of a dedicated care team.
- Dog-friendly and comfortable working in a home with a small dog.
- Eligible to work in the UK.
Essential Requirements
- Previous care experience.
- Clear and fluent English communication skills.
- Comfortable working in a home with a small dog.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Two valid references.
- Two forms of identification.
- Proof of eligibility to work in the UK.
- Willingness to complete all required training and competency assessments.
- Willingness to work towards a Level 2/3 Health and Social Care Diploma.
Desirable, But Not Essential
- Previous complex care experience.
- Experience supporting individuals with MND.
- Experience supporting individuals with complex neurological conditions.
- Experience with moving and handling, respiratory support or communication needs.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
- NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent in Health and Social Care.
- DBS certificate on the Update Service.
