Location: BH10, Bournemouth

Hours: Part-time, 6 hours a week (2-3 days a week)

About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled SEN Youth Mentor to support a 17-year-old young person with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and learning difficulties under a social care provision.
This role requires a confident and experienced mentor who can provide consistent 1:1 support, ensure safety, and build a trusting relationship. The young person is non-verbal, of a significantly tall stature, and requires close supervision due to complex needs, including pica and compulsive behaviours.
You will support engagement in structured, meaningful activities, help manage behaviours calmly, and promote wellbeing through a predictable and supportive approach. A driver with business insurance is essential to support community access.

Responsibilities:

Provide 1:1 specialist mentoring and emotional support

Ensure safety at all times, particularly in relation to pica and environmental risks

Support with routine, structure, and visual communication strategies
-
Manage behaviours using calm, consistent and agreed approaches

Build a positive, trusting relationship with the young person

Facilitate engagement in sensory, play-based and community activities

Act as a positive role model and promote independence

Support regulated transitions and reduce anxiety triggers
Who We're Looking For:

Minimum 2 years' experience supporting young people with ASD, SEN, or complex behaviours

Confident in managing challenging behaviour safely and calmly

Understanding of non-verbal communication and visual support strategies

Patient, consistent, and able to build strong relationships

Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle with business insurance (essential)

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willing to apply)
