The Biscuit Factory is the largest independent art, craft and design gallery in the UK. Alongside the gallery, we house our popular café, The Factory Kitchen, and several dedicated event spaces. We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and versatile Chef to join our hospitality team.
You will play a key role in catering for a diverse range of events. From intimate private dining to large-scale gatherings of up to 300 guests, our offerings range from street food and buffets to formal, bespoke menus.
As part of a dynamic catering team working under our Head Chefs, you will assist with daily food preparation for both The Factory Kitchen and the events department, as well as delivering high-volume live events.
The right candidate must possess the confidence and ability to work solo using their own initiative when required, while helping to maintain our 10-year reputation for excellence in one of Newcastle’s most creative cultural environments.

The Candidate Must Have:
- A strong track record in quality-driven catering or restaurant environments, demonstrating adaptability across various cuisines and service styles.
- The ability to run the kitchen smoothly in the Head Chef’s absence.
- Confidence across a range of cooking styles, with a keen eye on modern food trends.
- Exceptional organisational skills with the ability to manage prep lists and fast-paced service delivery.
- A professional, calm, and approachable attitude at all times.
- Effective communication skills to liaise seamlessly between kitchen staff and front-of-house teams.
- Comprehensive knowledge of hospitality operations, Health & Safety, and Food Hygiene regulations.

Key Responsibilities Include:
- Assist the Head Chef(s) in managing food production to ensure quality is maintained and waste is minimised.
- Supervise and motivate the kitchen team, ensuring a respectful and productive environment.
- Work with the Head Chef to develop seasonal menus and contribute creative ideas for bespoke event briefs.
- Ensure food and presentation standards remain excellent and consistent across all events.
- Assist with ordering, stock rotation, and monthly counts.
- Help nurture and develop junior staff and agency workers to maintain high standards.
- Lead service briefings and attend weekly operations meetings to discuss upcoming event logistics (when required).
- Maintain the highest standards of kitchen cleanliness, adhering to Shield and local authority 5-star standards.
