Service 24 Hour Breakdown Technician (HGV) – Exeter & Cornwall
Salary: £59,105 per annum
Hours: 3-week rotating pattern:
- Week 1: On-call breakdown cover
- Week 2: Workshop support (06:00 – 14:00, 30-minute unpaid lunch)
- Week 3: Workshop support (10:00 – 18:00, 30-minute unpaid lunch)
Contract: Permanent
Earning Potential (OTE)
- Basic Salary: £59,105 per year
- Call-out Earnings: Included in salary
Overview
We're looking for an experienced HGV Breakdown Technician to join a busy commercial vehicle dealership, covering Exeter and parts of Cornwall. This role offers a structured 3-week rotating pattern, combining on-call breakdown work with workshop-based support. A company van is provided and can be taken home, and you'll also have the van during weeks 2 and 3 when supporting the workshop as back-up to the call-out technician. If you have previous HGV breakdown experience within a dealer environment and enjoy the variety of roadside and workshop work, this is an excellent opportunity with a competitive salary.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend HGV breakdowns across Exeter and Cornwall during on-call week
- Diagnose and repair faults roadside to get customers back on the road
- Carry out servicing, maintenance, and repairs on HGVs in the workshop during support weeks
- Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in line with manufacturer standards
- Maintain accurate job cards and documentation
- Uphold high standards of customer service and professionalism
What You'll Need
- Previous HGV breakdown experience within a dealer environment is essential
- Recognised Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance (NVQ/City & Guilds/IMI) or equivalent
- Proven experience as an HGV Technician
- Strong diagnostic and repair skills
- Full UK driving licence (HGV licence desirable)
- Flexibility to work the 3-week rotating pattern
