First Rung is a leading independent learning provider with centres in North-East and North-West London and in Hertfordshire. . We offer a range of vocational and apprenticeship provision to young people. We are looking for a skilled and experienced subject specialist to lead the delivery of functional skills and GCSE mathematics across our various programmes.
Key duties include:
·· Teaching GCSE and functional skills mathematics
- Curriculum planning development
- session preparation
- Acting as organisation mathematics subject specialist
- Provision of coaching and mentoring support to other mathematics tutors
- Supporting the delivery of other subjects where appropriate
· Assessing learner needs and levels
· Individualised target setting and planning
· Tracking and recording learner progress
· Exam preparation
We are looking for committed and enthusiastic professional with excellent teaching, coaching and mentoring skills. The successful candidate will be a subject specialist in mathematics and have significant experience of delivering functional skills and GCSE mathematics. Proven teamwork skills and the ability to work effectively with young people who have experienced educational disadvantage is essential. So too, is the ability to collaborate with other staff teams in supporting learner progress.
As a minimum, candidates must demonstrate a proven high level of proficiency in mathematics and hold a full teaching qualification such as a PGCE, DTLLs or Cert Ed. They must have significant experience of teaching Mathematics to young people in the 16-24 age range.
The role will involve travel between First Rung’s centres so possession of a car and full, clean driving licence would be a distinct advantage

Accordingly, all staff will be subject to an ‘Enhanced’ DBS check and will be required to provide two satisfactory references.
