Sliding Head Setter/Operator - Strategic Innovations
We are looking for a skilled Sliding Head Setter/Operator to join our team, responsible for the programming, setting, and operation of our Sliding Head Lathes to manufacture precision engineered components. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of machining processes and a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
· Set, operate, and (where applicable) program the Sliding Head Lathes to produce components to specification
· Interpret engineering drawings and work to tight tolerances
· Select and set appropriate tooling, speeds, and feeds
· Carry out machine set-ups, tool changes, and offset adjustments
· Perform first-off inspections and in-process quality checks
· Measure components using precision instruments (micrometers, verniers & gauges)
· Monitor machining processes and make adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency
· Identify and troubleshoot machining or production issues
· Complete all relevant documentation and production records
· Carry out routine machine maintenance and ensure equipment is kept in good condition
· Maintain a clean and safe working environment in line with Health & Safety standards
· Work collaboratively with engineering and production teams to improve processes and output
Skills & Experience
· Proven experience as a CNC Machinist (setting and operating essential)
· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
· Experience with CNC controls (e.g. Fanuc)
· Strong knowledge of machining techniques, tooling, and materials
· Experience working to tight tolerances and quality standards
· Competent using measuring and inspection equipment
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Desirable
· CNC programming experience
· Multi-axis machining experience
· Engineering apprenticeship or relevant qualification
· Experience in sub con manufacturing & precision engineering.
