Walford Construction is a growing, well-established contractor delivering high-quality residential and commercial construction projects across Greater Manchester and the North West.
Due to continued growth, we are seeking a reliable and hardworking Construction Support Operative to join our team.
This is a varied and hands-on role supporting our Site Managers, tradespeople and construction projects. The position involves driving company vehicles, collecting and delivering materials, assisting with site operations, carrying out general labouring duties and undertaking occasional property maintenance works across our managed portfolio.
No two days are the same, making this an ideal role for someone who enjoys practical work, variety and being part of a professional construction team.
The Role
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the smooth operation of multiple construction projects.
The majority of the role will involve:
- Material collections and deliveries
- Supporting site teams
- General labouring duties
- Site organisation and logistics
- Assisting tradespeople and Site Managers
There will also be occasional maintenance and repair work within residential and commercial properties managed by our sister company, Walford Estates.
Key Responsibilities
Site Support & Logistics
- Collecting and delivering materials, tools and equipment to live construction sites
- Driving company vehicles, including tipper trucks and vans
- Assisting Site Managers, Foremen and tradespeople as required
- Helping maintain clean, safe and organised sites
- Loading and unloading materials and equipment
- Collecting waste and surplus materials from sites
- Assisting with site setup and general labouring duties
- Supporting project teams to ensure works run efficiently
Property Maintenance (Occasional Duties)
- General repairs and maintenance works
- Replacing door locks, handles and ironmongery
- Basic plumbing repairs including taps, toilets and minor leaks
- Painting and decorating
- Minor joinery repairs and making-good works
- Replacing light fittings, switches, extractor fans and like-for-like electrical accessories
- Basic fault reporting and property inspections
- Preparing properties between tenants where required
General Duties
- Keeping company vehicles clean and presentable
- Looking after company tools and equipment
- Assisting with emergency maintenance issues when required
- Representing Walford Construction professionally with clients, tenants and suppliers
- Supporting the wider team wherever required

Essential Requirements
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Experience driving vans or commercial vehicles
- Good understanding of construction site environments
- Ability to undertake physical work and manual handling
- Basic knowledge of hand and power tools
Preferred Qualifications
- CSCS Card
- First Aid at Work
- Experience within construction, joinery, maintenance or general building works
- Towing entitlement
- Experience operating tipper vehicles
- Basic plumbing, joinery or electrical maintenance experience
