The role
This is an exciting opportunity for a Business Development Assistant or Executive who is looking for a full mix role but in a mid-sized law firm where they can make a strategic impact with the opportunity to gain autonomy and responsibility early to help shape the growth of these dynamic groups.
The role has a primary focus on marketing and business development but will also be involved in other go to market initiatives including strategic events, campaigns and client account management support for the firm's Technology, Media & Entertainment (TME) sector in addition to the firm's Intellectual Property, Technology Disputes and Media law practice groups.

You will be joining the firm at an exciting time when there is a great deal of strategic focus on our sectors and disputes practices, driven by significant ambition within the business and client development function and the wider firm. The firm's marketing and business development function is seen as pivotal in making achievement of our strategic priorities a reality. The role is highly visible and works closely with the wider Brands, Clients and Markets team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Business intelligence: Understand the markets, clients and key audiences of each practice area and subsector, sharing intelligence and insights with key stakeholders.
- Business planning: Assist the Business Development Manager (IP, Tech Disputes, Media) and Senior Business Development Manager (TME Sector) to develop, with the relevant lawyers, a BD/Marketing plan for each business area
- Managing content: Work alongside colleagues and lawyers to implement the planned activities for each area of the business including:
- Work with lawyers and others in BD & Marketing to develop marketing collateral (e.g. capability statements and other promotional materials)
- Maintain capability statements and fee earner biographies on a rolling basis and being the "go-to" person for those documents
- Co-ordinate and collation of content for internal and external communications and campaigns
- Work with the Communications and Digital teams to ensure that social media and other online networking opportunities are exploited
- Work with the Communications and Digital teams to ensure relevant and up-to-date information is included within the firm's intranet (EDGE) and on the firm's website
- Bid support: Support practice-led pitches and the Proposals team on panel pitches throughout the tendering process where necessary, including research, attending meetings with the bid team, sourcing pitch content and drawing together drafts, producing supporting materials and handouts, assisting in production of final documents
- Directories: Co-ordinate and collate the relevant submissions to legal directories: Chambers UK and Legal 500 and other industry/practice focussed directories and awards submissions.
- Seminars and events:
- Work with the CRM and Events teams to ensure accurate and carefully targeted invitation lists for each event
- Brief and discuss with Events team the design and production of supporting collateral, (eg invitations and seminar packs)
- Ensure budgetary awareness for all events
- Support and attend events and planning meetings, rehearsals as required (liaising with Events team)
- Working with the Events team to ensure appropriate event reports and analysis of invitees and attendees
- Support the SBDM and BDM, working with the CRM team on client mailings
- Share best practice and knowledge with others in BD & Marketing
- Assist the team in drawing together any required information for management reporting
- Use data and market insights to identify opportunities, monitor trends, and adjust strategies for revenue growth
- Client development:
- Support client account management meetings, plans, follow-up and activity with key sector and practice clients, working closely with Managers, Senior Managers, the Client Development Team and lawyers across the firm
- Support client listening interviews with clients, attending, recording actions and supporting the team to act on key insights and follow up
- Develop close relationships with marketing communications colleagues in support of BD plan implementation
- Lead and collaborate on wider projects outside of the role scope where necessary
The team
This role reports into the Senior Business Development Manager responsible for the firm's Technology, Media and Entertainment sector. It also supports the BD Manager responsible for the Intellectual Property, Technology Disputes and Media practices.
The team also manages a number of priority and growth clients - this role will support our efforts to grow these clients. The role will also work collaboratively with colleagues across the wider Brands, Clients and Markets team.
Knowledge, skills and experience
Experience
An understanding of business-to-business marketing, business development and relationship management within professional services. Experience working in professional services or a law firm an advantage.
