Based at Hemerdon Mine, ~10 miles northeast of Plymouth. No public transport to site. Own vehicle essential.

Tungsten West plc is a mining development company focussed on the restarting of the world-class Hemerdon Tungsten-Tin mine located in South Devon, UK. The Company is the 100% owner of the previously producing Hemerdon mine, which is currently the 3rd largest tungsten resource in the world. With demand for strategic metals, including tungsten and tin, increasing rapidly due to their critical use in new technology, Tungsten West is focussed on meeting this demand by restarting production at Hemerdon in the next 12 months.
Join the team working on the mine re-start, being an integral member throughout the project re-build, commissioning/ramp-up and into production.
Job purpose:
This role provides technical support and drives process optimisation within the processing facility. Reporting to the Metallurgy Plant Superintendent, you will be responsible for the day-to-day metallurgical performance, accounting and reporting of the process plant and ore sorter, as well as conduct plant investigations and improvement projects to improve recovery, increase throughput and reduce costs as required. This is a hands-on technical role suited to a proactive, safety-focused professional who thrives in a dynamic start-up environment.
Responsibilities:
- Actively promote and reinforce a strong safety-first and risk-aware culture
- Support metallurgical performance across the processing plant and ore sorter, ensuring optimal recovery and performance.
- Review, update, and optimise plant parameters.
- Generate and maintain daily and weekly metallurgical production reports to ensure targets are met.
- Provide technical guidance, training, and mentoring for members of the processing team.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
- Conduct plant surveys, sampling campaigns, and data analysis.
- Identify performance improvement opportunities and lead the delivery of continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform metallurgical test work as required
- Any other duties as reasonably requested by your Manager.
Skills & Qualifications:
Essentials:
- Degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Mineral Processing, or related discipline or the equivalent relevant experience.
- Minimum 2 years’ operational experience in mineral processing operations or related fields.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
- Good communication skills being able to work with and influence a multidisciplinary team.
- Moderate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Desirable:
- Experience in plant commissioning or restart is highly desirable
Eligibility & Physical Requirements:
- Must have the legal right to work in the UK.
- The processing plant has 6 storeys and candidates will routinely be required to walk up and down stairs and candidates. Candidates must be able to perform this aspect of the role and also be comfortable with heights.
- Must be capable of working safely in accordance with site health and safety requirements.

Pay: £45,000.00 per year
